Dr Ng received her entire medical training in Australia at the University of Melbourne. She received her Australian Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and served as a Consultant Medical Oncologist in Melbourne before taking up her position at University Malaya Medical Centre. She was a Medical Oncology Research Fellow at the Austin Research Institute as well as the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne.
Dr Ng has a special interest in conducting clinical trials and has been Principal Investigator for numerous trials for various cancers, including a national level trial for Nasopharyngeal Cancer based on a Protocol she wrote at an Asia-Pacific research development workshop. In the course of her professional career, Dr. Ng has served on numerous Oncology Advisory Boards. She has also lectured and chaired at numerous local and international Oncology meetings and conferences. Her publications and lectures cover a broad spectrum of fields in cancer including breast, colorectal, lung and kidney cancer.
My Journal, an empowering and personalised resource that Dr Ng developed for newly diagnosed cancer patients, was officially launched by the Deputy Health Minister. The second edition of My Journalis available in four languages, namely, English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil, to allow access to Malaysians from of all ethnic backgrounds. Over 10,000 copies have been freely distributed to government hospitals with cancer centres.
Through her work in Empowered, The Cancer Advocacy Society of Malaysia, Dr Ng is well known for the cause she passionately fights for in under-resourced communities. She has been awarded for her continuous work in channelling equal access to life-saving colorectal cancer screening and treatment programs for under-privileged Malaysians. Her focused efforts have reached over 100,000 Malaysians living in under-resourced communities. In 2016, she published the research data generated from her large-scale colorectal work in the Asia Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention – Pioneering Annual Colorectal Cancer Screening and Treatment Targeting Low Income Communities in Malaysia. In 2016, Dr Ng launched an awareness public campaign highlighting Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer which featured the active participation of the medical industry, other private industries, medical schools, oncology and genetic experts, and other NGOs.
Dr Ng is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Physicians, Member of the Malaysian Oncological Society, Member of the Australian Medical Association and Medical Oncology Group Australia, Member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and is an Alumni of the Australia/Asia-Pacific Oncology Research Development Workshop (ACORD).
